Tassie Tiger Triplets
Three matched guitars built from rare Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle and ancient King Billy Pine.
Timber like this does not come along often.
When this rare piece of Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle came my way, I knew it deserved
to become something special. Rather than build a single instrument from it, I
decided to make three closely matched guitars — the Tassie Tiger Triplets.
The back and sides of each guitar are cut from the same remarkable timber,
giving the set a strong family resemblance while still allowing each guitar
to carry its own natural figure and character.
For the tops, I was able to use a piece of ancient King Billy Pine more than
400 years old. From that one piece, I managed to cut the three soundboards,
giving the Triplets another shared connection in both timber and voice.
Each guitar has a mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and ebony bridge. The aim
was to keep the design clean and honest, allowing the rare Tasmanian timbers
to remain the focus.
They are three individual guitars, but they belong together — same timber,
same idea, same bloodline.
The Tassie Tiger Triplets are a rare matched set: three handmade instruments
shaped from extraordinary Tasmanian timber, built to be played, collected and
remembered.
