A handmade acoustic built from Australian Redgum, AAA spruce, mahogany and bound ebony.
This guitar came about after years of saying that native eucalypt timbers were too unstable for guitar making.
I had always been cautious about using Australian eucalypt timbers in acoustic guitars.
They have a reputation for movement and instability, and for a long time I accepted
the view that they were simply too unpredictable for this kind of work.
Then I was given a piece of Redgum more than 100 years old, and I decided it was time
to put that theory to the test once and for all.
To my surprise, the timber was exceptional. It broke the rules. The figure, colour and
strength of the Redgum gave the guitar a character I had not expected, and it paired
beautifully with the AAA spruce top.
The guitar is finished with a mahogany neck, bound ebony fingerboard and mother of pearl
block inlays, giving it a more refined look while still keeping the timber as the main event.
This one changed my mind about what Australian native timber can do in a handmade acoustic guitar.
The result is an all-round awesome guitar — bold, responsive and full of character, built from
a piece of Redgum that proved itself in every way.
